I have a feeling I am missing or misunderstanding something very fundamental about how File Away works…

In the back end of my server, I did the following:

    1. created the base directory:
    public_html/harvest

    2. created a subdirectory:
    public_html/harvest/reports

    3. uploaded some .pdf files to the reports subdirectory.

Then I created a new page on my website and added the File Away shortcode from the two dropdown boxes: Directory Files > Sorted List

    [fileaway sub=”reports”]

But nothing shows up at all when I check the page — not a list of files, not even any of the page navigation that should be there. It’s just a blank page, frozen.

    I also tried this:

    [fileaway sub=”reports” directories=”on”]

    Same thing happened.

Tried the Basic Configuration setting both ways — Site Root Directory and WP Install Directory. Doesn’t seem to make a difference.

    I use the AVADA theme.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks!

Temporarily add debug=”true” to your shortcode to see if it’s pointing to the right directory.

If you just have a blank frozen page, you have problems beyond File Away. Check for errors in your console.

    Hi Thom,

    Thanks for the quick response.

I had uploaded some files directly to my server to public_html/harvest/reports. I could see the files on my server — but they were not showing up on my webpage with the shortcode [fileaway sub=”reports”]

So then I used the [fileup sub=”reports”] on my page to add some files. That did work — those files added via fileup did show up on my page.

    Now I have three questions:

    1. Is it not possible to upload files directly to the server into a FileAway base directory/subdirectory?

    2. Where exactly is FileAway on my server? When I look in the plugins directory, it is not there. I haven’t been able to locate it anywhere! Usually plugins are under public_html/wp-content/plugins

    3. And what about the files uploaded using the [fileup sub=”reports”] shortcode? Where would they be on the server? When I look in the public_html/harvest/reports directory, they are not there…although they do show up on the webpage.

Just trying to come to grips with FileAway to determine if it is the tool I really need.

Appreciate the guidance and good luck with the filmmaking!

Can you show me a screenshot of your Base Directory settings on the File Away settings page? Something seems to be misconfigured or you’re not looking in the right spot.

File Away should definitely be stored in wp-content/plugins

Did you install File Away yourself or did it come pre-packaged with your theme?

    I installed it myself…

Is your WordPress installed in a subdirectory of public_html, or is it installed in public_html?

Closing this support thread. The issue was the user was logging into an old webhost account after having transferred the domain to a new webhost.
