Shortcodes are returning nothing

I have tried several page listing shortcodes incluing this one and none of them work – I have blank output. The strange thing is that one of my sites at bluehost is still working fine and the other one that I am setting up on a VPS just refuses to return any child pages via shortcodes. Are there any specific server requirements for the server so that the plugin would work? I have tried deactivating all other plugins to no avail. I am completely at a loss here…
