Instead of just viewing a single slide I would like to have the ability to see four or more slides at once so that the slideshow fills the width of the webpage. Can this be done?

No, Meteor Slides makes slideshows, with just one slide visible at a time. What you want to look for to display multiple images at once is a carousel.
