showing 1800px wide images with 4px border
-
Hi,
I have sent my webmaster a mockup showing how I want my competition winning scale models gallery pages showing my hi-res photos, every minute (mynewt !) rivet and engine cooling vane visible on what are the best models in the world. Its for 1920×1080 screens, NOT MOBILE PHONES !
I like these with a border rather than full screen, so opted for a 4px wide light blue border around a 1800 x 1012px image. Thats proportional 1920×1080 reduced to see the 4px border and a bit of my background image of tunic cloth round the edges. I am using Photoshop talk, as no doubt pixels dont exist. I find out pt for text doesnt exist, its ren’s and pixels are instead percentages.
Can WordPress do this, or must they be full screen ? Does it need a plugin or can it manage such straight out of the box ? What extra costs are involved and are they subs or what
Some images are e.g. 1800 x 850px, and some deeper than 1012px so need scrolling up/down to view on a 1080px tall monitor, . Is that possible ?
In another part of my website for different effect on the human brain, I need full screen fitment for flight sim pics. Is that possible as full screen, and secondly perhaps a slide show rather than click for next ?
I am told by someone related to my webmaster that wordpress is for websites where many pics exist on one white background screen with text underneath like a news page and my website is out of date expecting a photo gallery approach and a theme running throughout nowadays.
I had gone for the page prior to this to have thumbnails 425x239px created by me, arrayed 4 wide in 3 rows, each with a 4px border again, each when clicked taking the user to pics of that particular aircraft. Not thumbs of each pic bit of each aircraft. so click a thumb and view e.g 5 pics of that aircraft, that can be navigated fwd/back with chevron.png corporal stripes , so if I had gone on hols to Scotland then USA taking 500 pics each time, I dont want 1000 thumbs !..just two, Scotland and USA named. Webmaster tried a thumb maker and got 1000 as it were. and no borders and gaps between, now I make the thumbs !
So can WordPress use my photoshop created thumbs and make a page of them as such ? I ask this as having overcome the first three levels he is struggling to go the last two levels to the gallery aka finish line.

You can actually implement any layout you want with WordPress. However, it’s not WordPress itself that’s responsible for this, but the theme you’re using. This controls the output in the frontend and defines what looks like what.
However, I don’t know of any way to convert a Photoshop design into such a theme “with a click”. That’s the job of a web designer, who will hopefully be well paid for it. They would have to look at your design and implement it in a theme that they think is suitable. And no, there is no plugin for this.
Technically speaking, as I said, I don’t see any limitations here. However, these limitations are reached when it comes to practical use. All websites today should be mobile-first, i.e., offer optimal display on mobile phones. If they don’t, they are difficult or impossible to find on Google, for example, as this is a very important criterion for Google when evaluating websites.
You therefore have the following options.
- Take a look at how themes work in WordPress, how to use them, and how you can use them to design websites. You can find an introduction here: https://learn.ww.wp.xz.cn/learning-pathway/designer/ – then implement it yourself. And yes, it takes some time.
- Or you can hire someone to implement your design in WordPress. You can find someone like this here, for example: https://jobs.wordpress.net
Hi,
Its all about a period feel, and nothing in any Library of themes comes within 10 lightyears of it. WordPress doesnt do WW2, us Brits do, from Airshows to re-enactments, but wordpress is Ikea mode !
<<All websites today should be mobile-first>>
except this one, as its an insult of the highest order to want to view the superb modelling skills in these FULL SCREEN images, on a piddly little device that exists for making phone calls, and modelling is about attention to detail, so its impossible to design such for a mb. unless they want to go spread spread spread 20 times then push push push 20 times just to see one picture. sad lot ! I have taken 40 years to assemble such LARGE pics, and mb’s are not in my sights for the website at all. its not selling lawnmowers but showing skills that most folk are not aware of.
My webmaster was sent all the background images, the photos, the brass buttons, and has managed to make the pages as per mockups. So far so good. just the thumbs and galleries to go. but now struggling I am told . Then I follow method to do the rest of the site.
Maybe thumbs can be skipped, if thats too much for WordPress and him. I could have done it all in Net Objects Fusion, dead easy, as I have done so 15 or so yrs ago. Such a shame that prog is dead, we seem to have gone into the stone age given whats involved and the ease of use of a prog now.
But you say WP can do this, so we just need to find out how.
If he has come to a halt, how do I get this finished , just the one journey from homepage to the gallery is what I need to see, then I can repeat that for the other buttons.
No one has had the creative streak to do this, so no tutorials anywhere on this.
Its my Lifetimes wish. A very important and showpiece website, that WILL get a lot of use., just by being referred to in forums, etc.
