Hi @reswpme, thanks for getting in touch.
You’re completely right that the server’s IP being detected as the visitor would block everybody for the period set in your Rate Limiting or Brute Force settings if just 1 visitor commits an action that results in a block so there are two main things for us to try first.
Do the other settings in Wordfence > All Options > General Wordfence Options > How does Wordfence get IPs ever present you the correct IP? You can check this by cycling through the options there until it displays the same IP address that you see on https://whatsmyip.com/. That would be the setting you need to use going forward, so click the SAVE button once you’re done.
Secondly, if that doesn’t work, I can see whether anything resembling a valid user IP is being sent from your host in a diagnostics report. Sending one to wftest @ wordfence . com by finding the link at the top of the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.
NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email
Thanks,
Peter.
HI
Thanks for the answer, I will try the suggestions and get back with an answer.
The strange thing is that I have 2 different hosting accounts on the same webhost, and my Wordfence have exactly the same settings, one shows correct Ip, and the new account shows the server IP.
I have contacted my host and they say nothing there is wrong or different in the settings in the accounts.
But I will check your suggestions and see if I can solve it.
Have a nice day:-)
Hi again.
I have tried to cahnge the settings in Wordfence, and this shows m correct Ip.
Use the X-Forwarded-For HTTP header. Only use if you have a front-end proxy or spoofing may result.
But very strange, the 2 hosting accounts have as I said the same settings in Wordfence, one works correct, for this account it don´t work.
Is it correct and will work if I use that setting in Wordfence where it shows my Ip, or can it cause antý problems?
Is it a setting with my host that causes it?
Hi.
I have sent you a diagnostics report.
Solved.
After my host tried to make changes to the server for 3 days I suggested they should move it to another server.
They migrated the sites to another server, problem solved, now it shows correct Ip with default settings in Wordfence.
