Hello!
With Make Plus this is possible in the Page Builder because you can transform any column into a widget area.
If you want to accomplish this with Make using the Page Builder, you’ll have to be more creative — either edit your theme files, use a plugin to display a menu as a shortcode in a Columns section, etc.

Thanks… how would the top menu be hidden if a side nav is used?

You could create an empty menu called Blank (or whatever) and use that as the Primary Menu.
