sidebar widgets banner ads?

    I’m using Twenty Thirteen theme, would like to place a banner ad in the sidebar (secondary widget area?) I’d guess that the text widget would work for random text and html, but it doesn’t. Is there another widget that I can use to place a link or html code for my banner ad?
