Sidebar woes

As far as I can tell my sidebar just isn’t showing up at all. I’m trying to use this google maps widget because it’s pretty nice, but when I add it to the sidebar, nothing happens.

I will note that I am not a web developer, I am a linux sysadmin. This designer stuff is lost on me. Yet somehow I still promised my old man I’d make him a basic website and host it for him… what was I thinking?!

Any help is much appreciated. I have searched through here for a while but I don’t fully understand how to fix this or what even causes it. My general understanding is that I need to make a container or something. I dont know.
