    To the app Developer

The Insights app on my website is supposed to collect the data from my Google Analytics account and simply show it to me on a pretty dashboard without any changes – which means that the data should be IDENTICAL.

Why then, the app data shown on my website is VERY different to the data shown in my analytics account?

For example – for 5 September your app shows 55 sessions on my website, yet my Google Analytics account shows only 21 sessions on that day. That’s a significant difference which is confusing.

Could you please explain which data is the correct one and why there is a difference in the first place.

    thanks

    Hi there,
    They’re both correct.

We pull the data directly from GA, so they are identical. The difference is the metric used. You’re looking at sessions in GA but our plugin uses pageviews (we’re getting ready to offer the ability to flip between the two later this year).

    Hi Chris

thanks – I checked in my account comparing sessions and pageviews – you are right. It shows 21 sessions/55 pageviews.

thanks again for your prompt reply 🙂

    Hi Chris

That would be really good as pageviews are a much higher number than unique visitors, and if taken out of contetext can be misleading. I would argue that pageviews don’t properly reflect the website traffic, and if anything I see them as inflated figures.

I know that advertisaer use pageviews to impress their (potential) clients when showing the benefits of online advertising (on their site) as they did to me. I didn’t like it, as to me these are misleading figures when (often) taken out of context and not explained. And many people actually take them as the number of visitors.

One visitor can have 20 pageviews, then come back to the website and have another 20 pageviews (or more). So that’s 40 pageviews+ and only one visitor.

I’m looking forward to your plugin showing unique and repeated visitors – the real measure of website traffic. 🙂
