Passwords are generated by the WordPress password generation function. This can be filtered to produce simpler passwords. I do have a code snippet on the support site for support subscribers.
I am working on releasing a new plugin (it will work with or without WP-Members) that generates word-based passwords with numbers and special characters for complexity, but in a way that is easier to use. I should be submitting that to the ww.wp.xz.cn plugin repository within a week or two.
Since a lot of people ask about simplifying the password process for subscribers, and I referenced it in my original response, I thought it might be a good idea to add to this thread.
