Are you asking: is it possible to export a single site out of a multisite network and make it a single site? Yes.
Otherwise, I’m not sure I understand your question. Can you say it another way? I’m not sure what directories you are proposing to delete? “Addon domain names” is really a hosting issue, not network, so maybe that’s where I’m getting confused. “Mapped domain names” would be a network issue…
Hello. Thanks for reply. I have 3 sites in cokimall(RDN) folders, cokimall.com/artscrafts/, cokimall.com/alldigital/, cokimall.com/allebooks/. I want to delete them so I set cokimall as multisite and the open the sites again in multisite cokimall. Can I do this?? For what you say I understand that the addons are no problem to do that. Righ?
Yes, you can do this. Here is what I would do:
- First, BACKUP EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING!
- Then create the multisite network on cokimall.com. If you are going to map the non-cokimall domains to the future subsites, I think I would create subdomain type network. You will want to read this, and follow these instructions. Make sure the network is working and create a test subsite and make sure IT works.
- Migrate the subsites into the network and make sure they work as subsites without domain mapping. Here are some instructions, but I have successfully used BackupBuddy for this as well. BUB doesn’t officially support multisite, but it does work.
- Then you will need to figure out the domain mapping for the addon domains. Some hosts have ideosyncratic steps that need to be done to make this work. For instance, my host requires that I create a symlink from the addon domain directory, redirecting the addon mapped domain to the directory for the domain of the network main site. You’ll need to check in with your host about what is required to make this work on your server. Once you get that done, then you can actually do the mapping inside the network admin dashboard to get the sites to show up on those mapped domains.
Just in case it’s not clear, you will still have those addon domain folders in your file manager, but they’ll point to the network.
