    Hello,

After migrating my site https://www.landmarkscout.com to another host I cannot setup site kit anymore.

It gives me the following message: The request to the authentication proxy has failed with an error: a site with the given URL already exists

I have reset the plugin in the former WP installation, but it still doesn’t allow a new setup and gives me the same message.

I hope you can help me

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Thanks for reaching out @edelweis5. Based on the error you’re encountering, I suspect that what may be happening is some of your site URLs on the Site Kit service don’t match your current set up for your site. This may be based on a previous site URL from the previous host you mentioned. In order to determine more on this, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred. If you’re using a custom wp-admin path or WordPress files in their own directory, please share your current setup in the additional information field.
    2. What is the URL of the page where you see this error? I ask as this may contain a no longer valid callback URL, based on your previous site. If so, you may be able to correct the URL to march your current setup in order to proceed.
    3. While you mentioned you had Site Kit set up on your previous host, before migrating, was this using the exact same URL, wp-admin path, and WordPress directory? If not, please share any differences between that site and your current site.

Note that another option to ensure you can complete set up, is to modify your site URLs in order to proceed, by removing the www prefix for your site in your WordPress general settings (Settings > General > Site URL and WordPress Address URL)

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

    Hi James,

Thank you for coming back to me. My feedback regarding your questions:

    1. I have shared my Site Health info in the form
    2. From the setup screen of the plugin: https://www.landmarkscout.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=googlesitekit-splash
    3. There is no difference in the site url, structure or setup. The only thing that changed is that we went from WP Rocket to Litespeed cache.

Removing the www prefix is not an option.

    Hi James,

In addition; I have also tried re-installing the plugin, but I still get the same error.

Many thanks for the update. Uninstalling or resetting your site as it’s currently connected won’t resolve this issue unfortunately. I also totally understand that removing the www is not an option. For most users, it’s the same case. Unfortunately given it looks like some records for your site already exist on the Site Kit service, the only options are for you to revert to the site as it was hosted previously, or for me to request an update of your site records.

To move this forward, I’ll go ahead and request a check now, and an update should there be any mismatching records. After doing so, you should be able to complete set up successfully. I’ll let you know as soon as I have an update for the request to check the Site Kit service.

Do let me know if you have any questions with the above. Thank you.

No update as of yet @edelweis5, I am still awaiting confirmation that your records were updated. I suspect this will be early this week, possibly later today. I’ll notify you here as soon as you can attempt Site Kit set up once more.

    Hi James,

The setup was successful and SiteKit is running as it should again, thank you James!

Glad to hear it @edelweis5. If you run into any further errors or if you have any Site Kit related queries, be sure to get in touch. If you have a moment free please also consider leaving a review, given it sounds like you were a Site Kit user for some time before migrating. We’d love to hear your feedback. Thank you.
