Ive got WordPress security plugin on my site and have had several lockout notifications in the past where bots were trying to access my site. But today there were six attempts made to get into my site (not as many attempts as when the bots try it) but the names they are trying to get into my site are “admin” “Admin”, “test”, “Administrator” “administrator” etc. Do you think this is a person trying to get into my site?

It’s still bots. There’s 1,000’s of automated bots out there that are designed to “brute-force” WordPress sites to attempt to login for standard usernames like ‘admin’. As long as you don’t have an account that is called admin, and you use a decent password, you’ll be fine. personally I have come in some mornings to see 5-600 lock out notifications from a single site, so 6 is nothing to be concerned about.

If you do use a generic account name like ‘admin’, ‘accounts’, etc… then create a new account for yourself in a real name or nickname and delete the ‘admin’ account. that will be one less way that hackers will get access to your site.
