Site not found
-
Hi, I’ve installed Google Site Kit; when I want to start, first step is to press ‘sign in with Google’, after pressing that I get this error:
The request to the authentication proxy has failed with an error: site not found Get help.
All help information you can find online doesn’t serve an answer to this issue.
Any help?

Thanks for reaching out @kylevanlerberghecad. The “site not found” error you’re facing indicates that your site was previously connected, and when trying to communicate to set up the plugin once more, it’s not recognizing your credentials. So we can determine more on this, and ensure you can get the plugin successfully connected, please share the following:
- Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.
- What is the URL of the page where you see this error? I ask as this may contain a no longer valid callback URL, based on your previous site. If so, you may be able to correct the URL to march your current setup in order to proceed.
- Did you at any stage change your wp-admin path or your WordPress files location directory? If so please share details.
Another option may be to modify your site URLs in order to proceed, adding or removing a www path. Alternatively, if we can determine incorrect records on the Site Kit service, we may be able to correct them. Once we have the information above we can troubleshoot further.
Let me know if you have any questions with the above.
Hi James,
- file shared privately
- https://www.carbonaltdelete.eu/wp-admin/index.php?action=googlesitekit_proxy_setup_start&nonce=8281d1517d / https://www.carbonaltdelete.eu
- Not that I am aware of.
Thanks for your help, looking forward to the next steps.
Many thanks for sharing @kylevanlerberghecad. From reviewing your site, and the use of a language path for your homepage with a WPML configuration, I suspect this is the cause of you running into this error. To troubleshoot this further, does the same occur if you temporarily deactivate WPML so your site URL default page doesn’t include a
/enpath? After doing so please attempt Site Kit set up once more.If you are able to connect successfully, I can guide you through using a filter to ensure Site Kit always recognizes your site without the language path, so you remain connected. Let me know how you get on with the above check, or ask if you have any questions.
Deactivated both WPML plugins. Deactivated and deleted Google Kit plugin, tried again and still did not work. Any other options?
Sorry to hear that. In that case, there are indeed a couple of things we can check Firstly, do you land on the same error page with the same callback URL
https://www.carbonaltdelete.eu/wp-admin/index.php?action=googlesitekit_proxy_setup_start&nonce=******/ https://www.carbonaltdelete.eu?If so, please modidy that URL and try to proceed, by adding the /eu path for both references, before trying to proceed (ie
https://www.carbonaltdelete.eu/en/wp-admin/index.php?action=googlesitekit_proxy_setup_start&nonce=******/ https://www.carbonaltdelete.eu/en).Let me know if that works for you. If not, please try to reset Site Kit before setting up the plugin once more (Tools > Available Tools > Reset Site Kit).
Let me know if you have any questions with the above.
The reset worked. Thank you.
Glad to hear it @kylevanlerberghecad. If you run into any further errors or if you have any Site Kit related queries, be sure to get in touch. If you have a moment free please also consider sharing your thoughts on the plugin.
Hi guys,
I have installed the Google Site Kit on my web again (after uninstalling it) and I get the same answer, when trying to log in with Google. Would you be so kind to help me out, please?
The request to the authentication proxy has failed with an error: site not found Get help.

@dubanlaci If you’d like to open an individual support topic we can communicate with you from there. Please include details on whether a site reset worked for you after you encountered this error. Thank you!
It seems like the issue might be related to your site not being properly verified or connected with Google services. First, ensure your site is publicly accessible and that you’ve set up the correct WordPress and Site Kit configurations. Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again. If the issue persists, check your WordPress REST API by visiting
yoursite.com/wp-json/to ensure it’s functioning correctly, as Site Kit relies on it. Also, verify that there are no plugins or security settings blocking access. These steps should help resolve the issue and restore your site’s health for proper Google Site Kit functioning.Thank you guys for the advise, fixed and now everything works perfect 🙂
Glad to hear it @dubanlaci, appreciate the update.
