Hello,
we’ll need to see the reports (before and after enabled) from GTmetrix so we know why it’s lowering the score. This is the translator built by Google and it loads a couple of external files from Google’s servers, and we cannot change that. But perhaps it’s something else that can be improved.
Also, bear in mind what GTmetrix states in its website:
The recommendations are meant to be generic, best practices; some things will be out of your control (eg. external resources) or may not apply to your page.
If you’re using the translator as a widget, you can try to add a simple Text widget before the translator with a dummy text and see if it’s displayed on mobile devices. If the dummy text isn’t displayed, then it’s because the theme is hiding that widget area for mobile devices, and you’ll have to either choose another widget area; or contact your theme provider to have a widget area always displayed in your desired location. If the dummy text is actually displayed, then we’ll need you to provide a link/URL to check it.

Hi
thanks for the reply.
here is the test with GT enabled:https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.in2grafix.co.uk/lcpAOcoC
and without
https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.in2grafix.co.uk/p9FvasOV
i will have a test with the placement of the widget,it sounds quite likely what you say that about it being a theme problem.
many thanks
Hello,
thanks for the links. I’m expanding the recommendations, and it seems like these 2 reports are very different in terms of what’s enabled.
As you see, the page size is 1.45MB vs 2.18MB, If you expand the Serve resources from a consistent URL in the first one, you’ll see it mentions this image:
http://dine92k9v74ra.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/Smith-Qatar-2015-3.jpg
The size of this image is 640KB, which is almost the whole difference between the above page sizes. And this image doesn’t belong to the translator.
GTmetrix generates a screenshot of the site too, notice these screenshots are different in the reports you sent. The second one is actually missing the above image.
It’s clear that by the time these reports were run, there were more differences other than the state of the translation plugin.
I just ran the report again (the translation plugin is deactivated now), and the size of the page is 2.06MB.
And the score is pretty much the same as the first report, with the translation plugin enabled.
So I’d recommend you to run these reports again, and you’ll see no difference whether the translation plugin is enabled or not.
If you find out that this answer is complete and good enough, and you don’t need anything else, we’d appreciate if you could mark the ticket as resolved.
Regards
I was messing around with it yesterday and when i logged in i just went to the report so here it is again
first of all with the plugin disabled:
https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.in2grafix.co.uk/tgr5R5vf
and again with the google plugin enabled:
https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.in2grafix.co.uk/byuVqOfC
absolutely nothing else was changed between the first and second test other than enabling the google plugin.
thanks for the help so far π
Hello,
thanks for the new links. But they are kind of the same as before.
If you open the Waterfall tab in both reports, search (control + f) for: Smith-Qatar-2015-3.jpg
In the slower report, you’ll see that this file is being loaded twice:
http://dine92k9v74ra.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/Smith-Qatar-2015-3.jpg
http://dine92k9v74ra.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/Smith-Qatar-2015-3.jpg?id=10678And this is exactly the information GTmetrix is telling you in the Serve resources from a consistent URL recommendation.
If you check the source code of the home page on Chrome:
view-source:www.in2grafix.co.uk
And search for: Smith-Qatar-2015-3.jpg
You’ll see where it’s being loaded twice by a plugin named: Visual Composer.
Do you understand?
i see what you are saying i just dont understand why it is happening with google activated and not happening when google is deactivated.
i guess i need to find out what is going on with that file first of all.i appreciate your response.
If you deactivate the translation plugin, are you able to find these two files within the HTML code of the home page:
http://dine92k9v74ra.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/Smith-Qatar-2015-3.jpg
http://dine92k9v74ra.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/Smith-Qatar-2015-3.jpg?id=10678I just ran a report on the contact page:
http://www.in2grafix.co.uk/contact-us/
The translation plugin is enabled. The score is high, as this page doesn’t have that image.
Check it and let me know.
ok i have managed to get rid of that duplicate and the scores are still different (slower with google enabled) but nowhere near as much
enabled:
https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.in2grafix.co.uk/WtBoInnA
disabled
https://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.in2grafix.co.uk/KHLuYEfrobviously id rather it wasn’t affected at all with google but i can live with that if i have to.
the difference between the 2 points to the image dimensions i just dont see why google affects that by being enabled.
I think it’d be better to test the impact of the translation plugin not in the home page, as it has lots of content. The size between the two reports is almost 1Mb, which is 10 times the real size of all the translator’s files (~100Kb).
Can you please make these tests with the contact page:
http://www.in2grafix.co.uk/contact-us/
The translation plugin is enabled now, I ran a report again, and it’s showing a high score. So to really measure the impact, please repeat these tests on this page.
Let me know.
Thanks, as you see the score is high, but lower.
You should take some time to understand the information GTmetrix is presenting you. You should compare the recommendations in one report vs the other.
As an example, if you expand the Combine images using CSS sprites recommendation, you’ll see it says:
The following images served from cloudfront.net should be combined into as few images as possible using CSS sprites.
http://dine92k9v74ra.cloudfront.net/wp-content/themes/legenda/images/after-arrow.png
http://dine92k9v74ra.cloudfront.net/wp-content/themes/legenda/images/icon-zoom.png
http://dine92k9v74ra.cloudfront.net/wp-content/themes/legenda/images/select-arrow.png
http://dine92k9v74ra.cloudfront.net/wp-content/themes/legenda/images/small-close.png
http://dine92k9v74ra.cloudfront.net/wp-content/themes/legenda/images/small-plus.pngThis recommendation is only in the slower report. But as you see, these images aren’t related with the translation plugin. If all you’re doing is enabling and disabling the translation plugin, this shouldn’t happen, so I’m not sure what’s really happening with your site, or with GTmetrix.
You can also see that in both reports, it says:
Additional tips: Optimize WordPress, Server is slow
If you go to the Waterfall tab in the slower report, scroll down to the very bottom, you’ll see the translation plugin files.
They are being loaded at the very end after the blue line which means the DOM page is loaded, so it’s not causing any delay to the visitors.

thanks for your help ,much appreciated and i will look into it and get back with any results.
