The issue is with the W3 Total Cache settings. It outputs the sitemap as a HTML file, instead of an XML file.
You’d have to perform these steps:
1. Go to Performance Settings -> Browser Cache.
2. Go to the prevent caching exception list.
3. Add the snippet below in there.
4. Save settings.
5. Clear browser and page cache (or all cache).

[a-z0-9_\-]*sitemap[a-z0-9_\-]*\.
