Sometimes strange behavior may be caused by a plugin or theme conflict. If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we wrote a small guide that will walk you through the steps. You can find it here: How To Check For Plugin Conflicts

I deactivated all plugins except Yoast Seo.. This did not solve the issue

I changed the theme to Twenty fifteen theme. It did not help.

any idea of what to do?

    thanks

Some of your smaller sitemaps do not have this error so it’s likely your server cannot handle the current max entries per sitemap for the larger post sitemaps. Please reduce the number to an amount your server can handle. I’d start with 500 (the default is 1000). You can try more or less if needed.

Admin > SEO > XML Sitemaps > Max entries per sitemap

I tried this but it did not solve the issue… This error occurred after i updated Yoast Seo.

anyone who knows how to fix this issue?

    Try this

make sure you have increased the default memory for WP in your wp-config.php file; default is 40M but WP really needs at least 64M these days, ideally up to 128M (we do 256M on ours). You can see the WP codex on how to add this line in your wp-config.php to ensure enough memory available to run your site! Assumes your limit is large enough in your php settings to do that.

THEN do this … or if above makes no sense, try this instead (or after doing above if that doesn’t fix it ) ….

    a) turn off the site map function, turn it back on; change the number of items; then save again in Yoast Panel.

    b) resave permalinks to clear those transients

    c) use wp-optimize to optimize dbase and clear stuck transients

    d) clear all caching you are using

    e) try it again with Google sitemap check.

    Good luck!
