I seem to be having trouble getting Yoast to generate a sitemap. After noticing Google was not getting sitemaps, I attempted to turn the functionality on and off for a while. No change. After a while, I decided to try another sitemap plugin. I did get a message about interfering with Yoast sitemap, so I turned Yoast off.

The other plugin did not work well. Therefore I attempted to try Yoast again. The other plugin is removed. The sitemap option is turned on in Yoast, but I published a new post yesterday. Google does not see the “View Sitemap” option in Settings shows “File not Found”.

    What should I do?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello @jeffz8

Thanks for using the Yoast SEO plugin.

The Yoast SEO-generated XML sitemap should be accessible at https://www.zouschef.com/sitemap_index.xml with styling for humans that stumble on a sitemap and at the non-pretty permalink, https://www.zouschef.com/index.php?sitemap=1

Furthermore, to ensure it’s accessible at https://www.zouschef.com/sitemap_index.xml with styling, remove any static sitemap files, as Yoast SEO does not create a physical file on your server.

If you do not find any static sitemap files, this may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please disable all plugins except Yoast SEO, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable plugins one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin offers a troubleshooting mode that will disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site. Once in the troubleshooting mode, please activate only Yoast SEO and attempt to reproduce the issue you described.

If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

There were no additional files. Going back to default theme is not an option. I am just going to do Sitemaps a different way.
