• First, I’d like to say thank you for taking on the work of maintaining and growing this plugin! I am really happy to see an option to be notified when emails are failing – this was a much needed feature. Now I just need to get it working.

Do you have any plans to provide documentation to enable Slack Notifications? I believe a Slack App needs to be created but when I tried to do this, there are a lot of options and it’s not clear to me how this should be set up to get it to work. There also doesn’t seem to be a way to test if it’s working so I don’t want to rely on it for failed emails.

    Thanks!

  • Hi,

Thank you for the kind words.

When you select the Slack option there is a URL “Get your webhook URL here”
it will take you to a public app I created to save the trouble for other users.
you will be redirected to https://slack.postmansmtp.com/

After authorizing post smtp app, you will get a webhook URL you need to paste in the settings.

When I click on that link to try to authorize, it asks me to sign into my slack account. If I sign into a Slack account that I want to get notifications sent to, I get this error: OAuth Error: invalid_team_for_non_distributed_app

    Please try again.

That worked, thank you! Is there anyway to test it?

Sure, just type random chars in the password and send test email.

I’m not using a password, I am using the GMail API with OAuth, but I guess can disable it for a second, thanks.

Actually, I tried removing my client ID and testing and also changing to the default configuration and testing and both my tests were successful. I also tried changing to SMTP with an incorrect password but I got an error that outgoing host and port couldn’t be empty (even though I added an outgoing port). Still my test was successful. It noted that Postman wasn’t set up and it was mimicking out of the box WordPress installation. Were my tests still successful since the out of the box WordPress email was working? I can’t actually find anyway to get a failure!

I will check it but will take me a bit of time, open a new account, team etc…

    Thank you!

    Hi,

Worked with wrong username and password on a new account I just opened.

You had it set to SMTP with wrong username and password? I tried that and even though I had it incorrect, my test was still successful. Do you know if this is because it’s mimicking WordPress out of box set up and that still works?

    I lost you.

Do you say you actually got the test email even with a wrong password?

    Did you follow the wizard?
    Setup any account?

    (@lyeffeth)

That’s exactly right, I got the email even with the wrong password. I changed my configuration (just going to the settings, not using the Wizard) and used SMTP with an incorrect password. Then the notice shows “Postman is not configured and is mimicking out-of-the-box WordPress email delivery.” and when I do a test, it shows as successful and I get the email. I was surprised too. I am not sure what your last question means “Setup any account”?

Start the wizard and configure the smtp account.

In your status the plugin is off and default to the local mail configuration.

If I change it with the wizard I can get it to fail and I did get the slack notification. I’ll change it back and should be all set. It does seem like there is an issue changing the settings directly though. Thanks for your help.
