    You do not run the standard wp jQuery library ( version 1.11.2 ) but the version from googla apis ( 1.4.2 ).
    De-activatre the plugin that loads the obsolete jquery library.

    It was the lightbox plugin that needed to be de-activated. I have since switched to Enfold Theme which does not require lightbox as a plugin, so the slideshow is working again. I will note this post as closed. Thanks for the input.
