I note a strange new behaviour with the latest 7.7.05.003.

The thumbs in the album overview display perfectly, but once I click on any thumbnail to view it in a slideshow view (VI-B2 = “full size photo in a slideshow”) I get a blank single image.

When I refresh that page, said [single] image displays properly, without the refresh it stays blank. Once a full image was displayed I can also go forward and backward in that album, but clicking back to thumbnail view, then selecting another thumb to view requires the same refresh operation.

You can see this in action e.g. at charleskohl.com: Select any one of the [sculptures/paintings/sketches] main albums sub menu “The Art of Charles Kohl”, then any sub-album displays the thumbs as it should, but clicking on any thumbnail pic in those subalbums reveals a blank pic until you refresh the page.

I have tried various changes to settings, but to no avail.

This happens with all browsers (Chrome/Brave/Firefox/Safari/Edge) and I can sidestep the problem by choosing VI-B2-> “Lightbox”, but then the user cannot see beyond the first 16 images of the album (unless he goes back to the thumbnails and selects the next set of 16…)

Any ideas what might be wrong?

    You have two optimizers:
<!-- Optimized by SG Optimizer plugin version - 5.7.20 -->
    and
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v16.2 - https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/ -->

What happens when you de-actvate one or the other or both?

    Well spotted, Sire!

While the “Yoast SEO” plugin is but a text optimizer for SEO purposes, I have found that the “SG Optimizer” was the culprit in this case. Said optimizer is a very potent device, it massively speeds up the site response. However – in my attempt to squeeze out the last drops of tempo – I had also enabled its “Combine Javascript files” option [and ignored Siteground’s warning to check, ahem]. Turning that off has resolved the issue, everything loads perfectly again, and is still very fast.

Many thanks for your hint, Jacob!
