Slimstat and server load

Recently, I experience some down time on our hosting. After communicating with the hosting, they said SlimStat plugin can be the cause, and asked me to try disabling it. However, my website is new and really little traffic right now. Is it possible for what the support said (as quoted below) to be true?

We have been reviewing the server logs from the evening of the 9th and it appears that the downtime noticed by your plugin was likely caused by one of the plugins on the site spawning long living processes. During the time of your reports the site was receiving repeated requests for wp-admin/admin-ajax.php with the referer “http://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wp-slim-view-1”. These requests were spawning PHP processes that were taking a long time to execute and were causing more and more CPU usage and eventually caused the account to reach the process limit on the server.

What we would suggest is that you consider disabling the WP Slimstat plugin and using an alternative to track site visits such as AWStats in your cPanel or Google Analytics as we have found in the past stat statistics plugins for WordPress can consume large amounts of server resources, especially as more data is gathered and tables grow very large.

We’ve seen this trend recently, where server admins blame their lack of experience in configuring their services on Slimstat 😉 We have sites holding 4 MILLION pageviews in Slimstat that run just fine and with no hiccups. Of course basic shared hosting plans might have access to limited resources, so that might affect performance.

Yes, it’s basic shared hosting plan, but my website really doesn’t have much visitor now, so I find it quite strange to get their reply like this. I have another hosting using SlimStat, but seems don’t have the problem.

But do you have any idea on how could I response to the hosting, so they can consider to do adjustment at their side? I’ve no idea about their technical terms and about “wp-admin/admin-ajax.php with the referer http://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-admin/admin.php?page=wp-slim-view-1” something like that… Anything I can suggest to them?

Would you have suggestion on what I should do? I’ve set “Live Stream” option to 600 seconds already, so it’ll refresh every 10 minutes instead of every 1 minute. Not sure what else I can do.

Unfortunately Slimstat requires a certain level of resources for “crunching” the numbers about your visitors, pageviews, etc.
