Hi @kurtismjohnson,
Thanks for reaching out!
I just checked the gallery and most of the images are quite large (roughly 2000×2000 px). I recommend resizing them to a smaller size and it should improve the loading time.
Please let me know how it goes!
Warmly,
Mihaela
Thanks! Ive gone smaller before but they looked grainy/low res in the Lightbox which was also frustrating. Currently they’re about 500kb-1mb when exported, them compressed a bit more on top of that. Maybe that is still too large. I never went lower than 1500px on the long edge though. But yes, these are currently closer to 2000.
Ok I went and resized the photos. There are still 3-4 that I didnt have the original files for with me so I will have to do those later, but 95% are smaller. Maybe it’s a little better?
Couple of additional questions:
- Is it possible I just have too many photos in the gallery? Does it matter? I want just one simple gallery for people to see when they visit the page.
- Is there a way to make the Lightbox smaller? When I click on a landscape oriented photo, it stretches it quite a bit and looks pixelated, especially on a larger screen.
- Am I just overthinking this? Its possible I am pixel-peeping my own photos which no one else is likely to do…
Thanks!
Ok, sorry for replying so much, but by the time you see this and check again, I have made another gallery with photos that are 2000px long side but compressed to match the other smaller size of the last gallery I made. Theyre between 200-400kb each. I have a couple different galleries now that I can swap out pretty easily. But this one seems to look the best and according to Pingdom’s speed test I am in pretty good shape.
I still am curious about my 3 questions above though. It still seems like it loads a little slow on mobile, but it’s not terrible. I’m open to making the images even smaller but I also dont want to sacrifice quality.
Anyways, sorry for the rant. I appreciate the assistance.
