Until recently, I only used the web version of TinyPNG. I chose the photo I wanted to compress, uploaded it to the website, and the website gave me a link to download the compressed version.

But now I’m using the wordpress plugin, and something in the settings caught my eye. I noticed that by default, the TinyPNG plugin leaves the options unselected:

Preserve creation date and time on original image
Preserve copyright information in the original image
Preserve GPS location in original image (JPG only)

This means that by default the plugin removes this information from the image at the time of compression unless I select it to preserve the information I want.

My question is, how did this work in the web version of TinyPNG? Does the web version also remove these three types of information by default? (It’s because I don’t remember a place where I could configure such settings in the web version, and I’ve always used it in default mode, without changing anything).

I’m asking because I would like the plugin configured exactly as it works by default in the web version with regards to whether or not to remove this information from the images.

I would be immensely grateful for an answer.

    Hi @weslleysim,

    Thanks for reaching out!

When you upload an image to the web interface, all meta-data will be automatically removed to make the image as small as possible.

So if you leave the three selections unselected, it will give you the same result as the web version.

    Hope this helps!
