Daily I am getting this error once or twice.

    SMTP Error: Could not authenticate

Then after I run email test then it always say successful!

I talked to email support and they said:

We do see the events taking place. From our end it looks the same, authentication failure. This means that the plugin is at least intermittently submitting the wrong credentials, for whatever reason that may be.

  • Hi @techman,

When you get a chance, could you please share if you’re having issues sending a test email from WP Mail SMTP > Email Test as well? If so. please share full error details after sending the test email. Are you using constants to secure your SMTP credentials? If yes, please make sure you’re defining constants over the line /* That's all, stop editing! Happy publishing. */ in config.php.

    Thanks!

I never had any problem sending test email.

Yes I am have defined constants in config.php and they were after the line you mentioned. I have now moved them above that line so let’s see.

By the way I noticed that “To Email” where I send test email is never saved by the system. So every time I go to test email page, I had to delete already written email (which I wrote at the time of activating plugin), type new email and it never saves it.

    Hi @techman,

That is the default behavior. The email in ‘Test Email’ is auto-populated with a logged-in user’s email address. This feature is used to test the email and isn’t required after that. I’ll make a note of this behavior, though.

Thanks for the feedback. It’s always helpful to get insights from our users.
