    Hello, I installed the plugin and set it up using a custom SMTP. I know the authentication info is correct (user, pass) but it keeps saying it’s not when trying to send a test message. The error shown below. Could there be another reason while the authentication is failing?

    Thanks.

    CLIENT -> SERVER: EHLO http://www.tiliacomm.com
    CLIENT -> SERVER: AUTH CRAM-MD5
    CLIENT -> SERVER: [credentials hidden]SMTP ERROR: Username command failed: 535 authorization failed (#5.7.0)
    SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.CLIENT -> SERVER: QUIT
    SMTP Error: Could not authenticate.

    Hi @dougeefresh ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

    Generally speaking, the “Username command failed: 535” error occurs when there are incorrect credentials or an issue with the SMTP server occurred while attempting to send the test email.

    First off, please ensure that you had followed the instructions outlined in our documentation for setting up each necessary step when connecting to your SMTP server.

    If you followed the steps correctly and are still experiencing issues, please ensure you do not also have any other SMTP plugins enabled at the same time as Easy WP SMTP as that might cause a conflict to occur.

    Lastly, do you have any other SMTP server/credentials that you can test instead of the current one? Our documentation mentions some alternatives you can try to confirm if this is a general issue or if it’s specific to the SMTP server.

    In case it helps to know, you can try setting up a free trial account with SendLayer and connect using their SMTP credentials. Please note that their trial allows for 200 free emails in total, but that should be sufficient for testing purposes.

    I hope this helps! If you have any questions, could you please let me know?

    Thanks! 🙂

    Thanks for the reply. I am 100% sure the credentials are correct. And, no other SMTP plugins were active at the time of testing. I’ve tried several plugins and all of them had the same error with the authentication therefore I don’t think it’s your plugin that’s causing the issue. I ended using another server so it’s good now. Thanks again!

    @dougeefresh did you resolve this issue?

    Hi @rtnlsltn

    Just to confirm, have you already tried the troubleshooting steps I mentioned in both this and the other thread you replied to?

    If yes and that didn’t resolve the issue, please create a new thread so we can take a look at your unique case of this issue.
