I’ve checked a fresh installation with Smush and I couldn’t replicate this issue so it seems that it’s something specific on your end that is causing this.
Could you perform a conflict test by disabling your other plugins and switch to the default WP theme to see if you can dismiss the wizzard after that?
If you pinpoint which plugin/theme is causing this do let us know so we can check it further on our end to see if there’s anything we can do from our end to prevent this from happening.
I suggest doing this test on staging site first or make sure to have full backup of your site ready before doing the test.

I’m having the same problem. I cannot get the wizard to close.
Update: Purging all W3TC caches solved the problem for me.

Apologies for the delayed response. Due to the huge number of support requests we have been receiving in this week, the responses have been delayed by a bit. We are still trying to get back to normal.
About the issue, as you mentioned that purging the W3TC cache resolves the issue, does everything look good now? I mean is Smush and all the modules relating to it seem to be working well?
