How do I get social icons in the footer as in the demo?

I have read the documentation.

To create a social link to Facebook I enter the URL and “Facebook” as Navigation Label. Nothing happens. Nor can I specify “icon-fb” because the CSS Classes (optional) doesn’t exist for me under Appearance > Menus.

Feedback:

It’s a nice theme, but I have two complaints.

1) When I turn off commenting there is a white empty box (column) below the post/page. Doesn’t look good.

2) “Share: Twitter Facebook Google+” is displayed on empty or short posts in both blog feed and archives. Doesn’t look good either.
