Here in wp.org version it is not possible to keep the ability to use the /mnt due to plugin guidelines. We had to remove it in a few updates back.

However, you still don’t have to keep all files in media dir or download-manager-files dir, your can create a separate dir inside wp-content dir and organize your files there, then user server file browser to attach files.

Thank you for the explanation Shafaet. I understand that you must be following a WP restriction. That is unfortunate.

The problem with keeping the files in wp-content is that it makes the public_html file enormous. Backing up is tedious – In my example, my /mnt/download directory has 115G of materials. They live better somewhere that I can rsync separately for mass backups of that directory. At least let us use a /var/www/bu directory. This is what Akeeba allows for its backups.

Meanwhile, I switch between 3.53 whenever I make a new file appear where I want it too, then hope I remember to quickly go back to 3.7x

    Good luck to us all.

However, wpdm pro version still have the option available.
