Here are some screenshots to show the problem I see.
The missing images on the frontend (1/2 way down the page) and the code in Chrome Dev Tools

I have cleared Cache.
Thank you.

Since I tried this on a live site (yeah silly), and at least half my images are missing, I couldn’t wait more than a few hours with the site in this state.
From what I see, the plugin was working correctly, BUT it has deleted some of my original images. They are not in the original location and I cannot find them elsewhere. They do not come back when deactivating the plugin?
My only choice was to restore the site from a backup.
I can see this is a good plugin, but maybe there is a bug in my setup, I don’t know.
I will try again, but I will set up a test site first this time.
Hello @timbo_d,
Thanks for your message.
Thanks for helping me test the problem. I did not find any problem with the plugin. It is not possible for the plugin to delete your original images. There is no code in the plugin that can do this.
Are you sure that this is the fault of the plugin, and not some other, or the server? Unfortunately, I have no idea why this could have happened.
Best,
Mateusz
Hello Mateusz,
Thank you. Yes, I can see the staging/test website you looked at is working correctly.
So the next step is to try to get it working on the live site wouldn’t you agree?
The difference between Live and staging is minimal, but my host does not use caching on staging, and Cloudflare is not enabled on staging, so maybe this is a clue.
While I don’t want to have missing images on my live site for long, if you agree to look at it, maybe it can be resolved quickly.
I can re-install the plugin on the live site and make the server config changes, and leave it ready for you to optimise the images and test again?
That should replicate the issues I had.
I can send you the login details if you agree.
Many thanks again,
Tim
@timbo_d Please do another test – disable all other plugins except the WebP plugin and then convert the images. This will make it clear what is causing the problem.
Unfortunately I can not test on the production side, but I will help you here. This is too much of a risk for me.
