Some one asked to help him with his wordpress website because he was unable to put online files like pdf

I checked it and I saw that the link generated had this form : http://websiteadress.com/wordpress/portfolio/files/name.pdf and it suppose to had this form:
    http://websiteadress.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/name.pdf

I tried to go in general settings for media to look at the ling to store files and on his website, he doesn’t have this option…He has only settings for “Image sizes” and “Embeds”. He doesn’t have “Uploading Files” options.

He has, like me, the last WordPress version.

Does he have to do something on hi server or what?

    Thanks for help.

Disable all plugins by renaming the plugin folder. Switch to the twentyten theme and check settings again. If uploading files is there, add all back one by one until it breaks.

Delete wp-admin and wp-includes folders. DO NOT delete wp-content.
From a new copy of wp replace those directories on the server.

The guy did it and it didn’t make any change. Very strange…

I give him a space on my server and I told him to transfer everything to look if he has the same problem.

I’ll come back here after to let you know.

    Thanks.
