I have the same issue.
The debug enabled, but no logging happening at a time when the user clicks on the submit button. After a few seconds the message “Something went wrong. We’ll take you back to checkout so you can try again” is shown.
FYI:
While debugging this, I have found that the issue is related to PayPal not allowing to pay to self and reporting an error in the JSON response.
However, because of the generic message in the browser, it is not clear what is wrong.
I think because email is passed to PayPal triggered this error.
Once I use a different email and card, the payment works.

@angela2601 can you tell me a bit more about how you are testing this in live mode?
I have exactly the same error. The gateway used to work until a few weeks back, but no more. Customers also have complained, so I had to deactivate the plugin and use the default paypal option.
I see that this is a recurrent problem with this plugin and has been discussed extensively, but has not been resolved yet. However, the plugin authors keep closing the tickets saying that this is fixed/resolved.

I have the paypal payment gateway enabled for admin and store manager only. I can’t have it live for the public for obvious reasons. I have attempted to pay using credit card only and it continues to throw that error. What other information do you need?
@angela2601 (or anyone else with this error),
Can you check your browser console for any JavaScript errors? Also, check for errors under WP Admin > WooCommerce > Status > Logs. There is a list of logs under the drop-down on the right side. Select a log, then click the **View** button. For this problem, you’ll primarily be looking for log files with fatal-errors or paypal in the filename.
Share any of those logs here and we can use that to narrow this down some more.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
