Sort by custom field?

    Hi there,

    Hope you are well.

    Firstly, many thanks for having developed this great plugin and for sharing it with the whole of the WP community!

    Secondly, is it somehow possible to add a custom field sorting option? For example, I would love to be able to sort products by dates that are stored in custom fields.

    If it isn’t currently possible, would you then consider adding this functionality? I would provide a solution myself to GitHub if only I had the skills 🙂

    I know this plugin is supposed to be able to do it, but for some reason, I cannot make the plugin work:

    PS. I am aware and have tried out the below options, but for some reason, I couldn’t make it work and so I am hoping for a more up-to-date user-friendly option within this great plugin 🙂

    Thanks for reaching out. Judging by the links in your original post, it looks like you’re referring to a different plugin entirely, created by WP Wham. Their support forum is over here:

    Would you please be able to confirm for me that it’s More Sorting and not Extra Product Sorting Options you’re referring to?

    Thanks for your response.

    My referral to the other plugin ‘More Sorting Options for WooCommerce’ by WP Wham was just an example of another plugin which has this functionality and so I was just sharing that with you in case it would be useful to take inspiration from how they’ve done it. The reason why I am not using that plugin is that I cannot make it work – but I think that’s for completely different reasons 🙂

    So yes, my ticket was related to your plugin and not the one by WP Wham.

    Hope that clarifies things and sorry for the confusion!

    Ah, so sorry for the confusion here, and I appreciate you taking the time to clarify things!

    In what way weren’t you able to get the code snippets to work? The blog post is nearly six years old, so I’m not altogether surprised if that doesn’t work, though I’d like to know more about what you’ve tried. While customizations don’t fall under our support policy, I can take a quick look here to see if there’s something I can help out with.

    Hi Julie,

    Many thanks for following up on this. In the meantime, I’ve actually sorted it out and it showed up to be an issue with the theme I’m using. Apologies, I should have let you know!

    Anyway, I still do hope that you’ll implement this feature as a core feature in your plugin. I reckon it would make a lot of sense to have this feature in the plugin as I imagine a lot of people who are looking to add extra sorting options would be likely to also want to sort by custom field data. By having it in the plugin you’d also ensure that the implementation of this would be up to date, whereas snippets have a tendency to get outdated.

    Thanks for coming back to me here, I appreciate it!

    I’ll certainly pass your feedback along to my product team and they’ll ultimately be the ones who’ll decide if this feature gets added. While I can’t promise its eventual inclusion, I do promise my product team will give it its due consideration.
