sort_column

The documentation at http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Template_Tags/list_cats states that I can only sort categories by ID or name. What I’d like to do is sort by number of posts in the category (optioncount). I’m obviously a PHP novice, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
