Space above Advanced Columns

I’ve been playing with several different options to put a featured image to the left of my page, including doing it the obvious way with a theme. However, I’m also considering doing it with just a block like Advanced Block. First column for an image, second column for the main content.
Except I found an odd interaction with Adv Columns. If I make my first block a standard paragraph block, there is a small space between the title and the content page, normal spacing. However, if I make my first block the Advanced Column block, it adds a bunch of space between the title and the top of the columns. I tried using negative margins to move it up, which it does on the editing screen, but when I view it in live mode, there is still a significant gap.
I’m not sure if the theme is adding something ahead of the Adv Columns or the plug is adding it…
