Hi Brajesh

Just an idea for better space management. I think that when activating the gallery for a group, it would be useful to have the possibility to choose how much space to give to that group.I am before a dilemma as I am preparing a group for a spanish course and they need much space in order to upload ebooks and other docs (maybe more than 20GB) for practicing the language; but I wouldn’t like to give the same space for a group with just one or two persons.

What are you thinking about ?

Hi George,
Thank you.
That’s a good idea. I will put some solution in 1-2 days at max.

I am assuming that only siteadmins should be able to update the per group quota, is that a correct assumption?

Thank you

I think that under “Enable Gallery”, the groupe creator could be able to only see (not update) the quota (and the use of space), for example:

You have %1s%% of your %2s space left

so they can take decisions about space management.

Near the quota you could add a notice : “Contact the admin if you need more space” because the site admin could not know the needs of every group.

Practically the site admin could set a default quota in the dashboard settings (as it is now) and then they could update it from the group settings if group creators ask more.

Group creators should not be able to update, because they don’t know siteadmin’s hosting plan, except if you add an option in the group settings “Let group admin update the quota” and you check it yourself in case you trust the group admin.

An alternative solution is that the space is autoajusted according to the number of members until a maximum quota you set in the dashboard settings.

That’s my opinion and thanks for your quick response!

Thank you. I will it exactly like you have specified.
I believe allowing group admins to update quota is a bad idea and will find rare use, so will be avoiding that.

Thank you

Hi George,
Thank you for the new ideas. I still believe that most of the site admins will want to set a fixed space limit. It is always possible to use a filter to set the limit dynamically.

Thank you

Just to correct a mistake: in my first post I mean I would give to that group “more than 20MB” not “more than 20GB” I don’t have so much space.

I am not sure if it is a good idea to buy space from my site hoster, because I would have a problem in case I would like to change hoster. I think that space would be independent. In this case it would be a good idea if Mediapress could support many storing services and not only local.

Hi,
I just forgot to mention that we already had a product that allows flexible storage for users/groups.

Please check your PM on Buddydev for details.

Thank you
