Since installing and activating Comment Email Reply, I get an incredible amount of spam via email. Every email is entitled “[Living Vintage] New reply to your Comment”. Fortunately, Askismet (I think) is catching all of this spam, and it’s going directly into my spam folder within my WordPress admin. However, deleting 50+ emails a day gets tiresome.

Also, more worrisome than that is the fact that one of my blog followers reported today: “I got 13 replies from you living vintage host referring to a reply that it said I made to your web site. 1st — I did not send a reply. I have no idea what their message means. Hope it is not a virus.”

Can this problem be fixed? If not, I will have to deactivate and delete the Commment Email Reply. This would be unfortunate because I like the functionality.

Since the plugin generates mails on every inserted comment to your page, it will also do it when spam-comments are inserted in to your system. The plugin doesn’t check wheather spam or not triggered the mail.

I will think about, if its possible to add this functionality.

I understood the plugin was to email commenters when I, as blog owner, reply. However, why would a blog subscriber who didn’t comment at all be getting an email?

No, the plugin sends a mail to every comment author whos comment got a reply.

On every reply, the plugin sends a mail to the emailadress given in the comment where the reply belongs to.

It can only happen if the subscribers email adress is saved with an comment.

You’re not understanding my question. The person who got the email did NOT comment on my blog. He looked at the blog post, but he did not comment.

This plugin is virtually useless unless you add functionality to only include approved comments. No users want to get 50 spam emails. What’s the point?

I don’t mean to sound harsh. What I’m wondering is if there’s a way you can adjust this plugin so it only emails with approved comments (manually approved & automatically approved both)
