• Has anyone ever run into problems using special characters in WordPress. In particular, I am having trouble with the “o with macron” which is the letter “o” with a flat line over the top.

When I put this character into my sidebar php code, it appears properly, but in the body of my posts and pages, they are stripped out and replaced with question marks. This doesn’t happen to characters with a tilde (~) though.

    Any thoughts?

    No.
I even tried that character you asked about. It displays perfectly. So, you must be doing something wrong. And it doesn’t make to much sense to ask a display related question without a link…

    Ooops. http://yenpress.us/index.php

In the left sidebar at the bottom, it displays properly (“Shirō Ihara”), but in the body of the page at the top it displays “Shir? Ihara”.

I tried the HTML hex and decimal encodings, but the code seems to get stripped out.

Well, that’s, actually, not in the post but in the author line…
On a 2.3.2 test install I re-named an author as that and it displays it correctly. I’d check the profile of that author and make sure the name is typed correctly.

EDIT. Oh, I see, that’s not the post author – it is in the post text.

Yes, it’s not a site author. It’s one of our manga authors. I still can’t figure it out.

    Is it a CSS issue?
