• After I updated to 4.1.1 my plugins return this error “You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘TYPE=MyISAM’ at line 9 on line: 1471” if I click activate.

Also many of my plugins are missing. They show up in the plugin page but are not listed in Tools.

    How to fix please?

What version of MySQL is installed on your server?

As for the Plugins, the won’t show up in Tools if they aren’t active, and even then most plugins don’t show up under Tools. They either show up under Settings, their own section, or some other sections. Tools is really underused these days.

    I’m running Version 5.5.41

    My plugins will not activate!

Do you see them in the Plugins section of your blog’s Dashboard, do you see an error when you try to activate them, and if so would you please quote the error?

    I get the error
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘TYPE=MyISAM’ at line 9 on line: 1471

if I try to activate the plugin using the Activate button. However I managed to “Bulk” activate them ok.

    Hm, interesting.

Is it one specific plugin that was throwing that error, or any plugin you attempt to activate individually?

Any plugin would not activate. I also get this error everytime I do a plugin update. However the plugin went ahead and updated.

Something is just wrong with my SQL. But now with the latest WP update to 4.4.1 it is now much worse.

I also have my hosting server trying to troubleshoot the problem, but as yet they haven’t found anything.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like something is fouled up in the configuration.

Just one test though, if you first deactivate all plugins, are you able to activate just one (try at least two)?

    Thread Starter jackh

    (@jackh)

No. They were all deactivated in the first place. Only way to activate them is still using the Bulk button. At least that is working.

Can you access your database via phpMyAdmin (usually through your hosting provider’s control panel)? If so, what are the table types? Are they all MyISAM?

    Thread Starter jackh

    (@jackh)

    It appears they are MyISAM.

Hm, yeah, none of this should really be a problem for WordPress.

Try downloading WordPress again and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings. Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.
