    What happens if the Domainer plugin is turned off? Will that make the multisite automatically revert to the original, pre-mapped domains?

    So, ideally, I’d like to run a folder-based network, resulting in subsites with URLs like example.com/subsite. If subsite gets mapped to subsite.example.com or subsite-example.com with Domainer, and I then turn off Domainer, will subsite revert back to example.com/subsite?

    If this is true, my thinking is that I could clone a multisite network into a staging environment, run a db search and replace for //example.com/ -> //staging.example.com/, turn off Domainer, and all the subsites should work…

    Sorry for the delay; it’s been a hell of a month.

    Disabling the plugin would turn off the link rewriting, however if you have it set to run the backend through the primary domain (e.g. subsite-example.com/wp-admin instead of example.com/subsite/wp-admin) you’ll likely find a number of URLs in your page content (links, images, etc) using the mapped URLs. This may happen regardless if you’re using the block editor; haven’t actually tested this plugin with it but it’ll probably rewrite any URLs in the JSON responses.

    As for the staging approach, yes that would work just fine.
