Static Front Page: Multiple Nav Items Highlight

Hello. I am looking to set my WordPress site to a static frontpage (in my case, the “About” page). However, when I customize my template to do so, this not only highlights the “About” top nav menu item, but also the “Blog” top nav menu item.

Why is setting a static front page causing multiple top nav menu items to highlight? And how can I correct this, so that only the “About” item is highlighted?
