• Hy everybody!

    I’m trying to launch my domain and I really need some help with WP.

    Right now I’m struggling to find out 2 things:

    1. How to I set the order of the static pages (such as the “About me” page)? – I’ve tried the “Page Order” field, but it doesn’t seem to work.
    2. How to I eliminate the possinility to post comments on the same type of page? Once again, I’ve tried the standard – disenableing the “Discussion” options, but it has no effect.

    I guess they’re pretty silly questions, but please bare with a rookie.

    Thanks in advance,
    Ramona

  • 1. That setting has two sides:
    a) insert the parameter into the trmplate tag
    b) go to edit Pages and put the desired number in the Page Order field.

    2. I am not sure I understood this one 🙁

    2. Maybe delete the <?php comments_link() ?> from your index.php file?

    I don’t really understand the question either – but in attempts to translate it, it seems as if she’s tried to disable comments on certain pages, and it’s not working.

    But if it’s a static page…I thought you couldn’t have comments on Pages? Maybe I’m wrong (wouldn’t be the first time!), but if I’m not – are you sure they’re Pages and not categories or something?

    db, nothing stops you to have comments on Pages (you just have to call the comment template in the Page template). It just doesn’t make sense – in most of the cases.

    I desperately need help as my blog was going well.. just set it up, and I tried to mess with making a static page. I didn’t want all the latest posts to come up on the initial page and I didn’t want the about page. So I looked to see what the page was I wanted and I put it in the Options – General place for the first page link, which was something like ?cat3. Now my whole blog is messed up and I can’t access admin to change it back. The blog keeps redirecting to a page with the text I wanted on my initial page, but the skin doesn’t show up and I can’t go to any category or view the blog as it’s supposed to be. I’m scared I’m going to have to recreate the entire blog and I haven’t backed up the initial posts I made to my computer. Please tell me I didn’t mess this up forever, that’s it’s easy to fix.
    The URL to my blog is http://lonnashouse.com/wp
    Please help!

    OK… I figured out how to login to admin and I was able to change the instructions and get my forum back! What a relief! I will read the static page instructions more carefully and I’ll backup all my text.
