Stats plugin error on line 150?

    Hello, I`d really like to use stats plugin on my blog, but once i activate it and enter the (correct) API key after hitting SAVE the following error appears:

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function xml_parser_create() in /var/www/html/wp-includes/class-IXR.php on line 150

    I checked what is on that line but i could understand nothing.
    After reading some posts in the support forum i thought that the problem might be the theme I`m using, but even when i changed it to the default wordpress theme the same error continues to appear.
    Any idea?
