Ok, done. Got this from the forums:
“here is a quick fix (tested against php5.0.1)
change line 705 in wp-admin/upgrade-functions.php from
if ($res[0][‘Type’] != ‘varchar(32)’) {
to
if ($res[0]->Type != ‘varchar(32)’) {
