step by step tutorial on author information

I wonder if a Step-by-step tutorial exists on howto activate Auth Information on WordPress.
I know about this site , http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Author_Templates, but it was too long ago i worked with PHP to understand it.
I simply want to have list that says , 1. do this 2. do that 3. done. sortoff…
