• I was wondering how the translation mechanism works in WordPress. What I would like to do is create a translation file for some custom translation, but use the default translation file as a starting point and overwrite only with the translations in my custom file.

So for instance, use the default WooCommerce translation file, and overwrite that with a custom translation file where only the translated strings overwrite the ones from the default file.

    Is something like that possible?

  • Loco translate lets you create your custom translation without overwriting original files:

    Hi,

Thanks. I know I can make custom translations. But if I understand correctly that will make wordpress use my custom translation file in stead of the stock one. What I would like to know is: can I use them both? And only overwrite the first one with the second one where the second one has translations?

    It lets you use both

Thanks. Do you happen to know which one takes precedence?
