Yeah looks like it stopped working. I started using it on a site that received a ton of spam. After using this plugin it stopped, but recently a lot of spam started to come through again.
Not sure yet if it will help, but I just started a test where I replaced the hp form tag with a custom id and class and the Disable Accessibility box checked (otherwise it adds a message ‘Please leave this field empty.’ to the code which those spam bots probably understand by now). So my new tag looks something like this:
[honeypot wpcf7-999 id:email-cf7 class:email-cf7 move-inline-css:true nomessage:true]
Oh, and add this tag to the first email, it’s replaced by the email address of the sender. If they keep coming from the same IP, you can add that to the WP settings » discussion » blacklist.
IP Adres: [_remote_ip]
Great tips @jpnl. Let us know how it goes. Your suggestions are pretty much what I would recommend as well — changing up the ID as well as the field name (as the fieldname can help bots figure out what they should fill out, and thus work to trick them with the honeypot).
I like the IP address suggestion.
@daobydesign it lasted for a week.
Then the spame started again. Unfortunately.
I have added the [honeypot] field to the first (admin) mail now to see if/what they enter.
I deleted the plugin since it’s not working. I’m adding the IP addresses to the WordPress blacklist, not sure if this is working and also don’t understand how this is related to the contact form since it says it’s for user comments?
