Stopped Working
-
Pretty much a nightmare on my site since updating to the latest WordPress and Jetpack. They’re telling me the issues I’m having are with one of my plugins.
I deactivated the Membership plugin and then it allowed me to post but now, folks can no longer subscribe. When I did that, WordPress Popular Posts stopped working. I tried different things but it’s just not collecting the data.
I’m having my site restored back to a week ago and plan on not updating Jetpack nor WordPress since I’ve had no compatibility issues with any of my plugins for months now. Everything gets updated and everything continues to work, until now.

Hi there!
I’m running WPP on WordPress 4.6 without issues. Try disabling all of your plugins, enable them one by one and when your site breaks you’ll know which one is causing the issues.
It appears I found the culprit for all of the other issues I was experiencing, which came from Jetpack’s “spelling and grammar” service that’s part of their plugin. Now everything is working except WordPress Top Posts.
If I use the “all-time” option it works fine but if I use “total views” or “average daily views” in the last 24 hours nothing appears at all. I tried clicking on a bunch of stuff to get it started (which always worked) but still nothing.
I made sure to copy the .css file into my theme’s folder as suggested. All to no avail. While I do plan on creating an all-time list, right now I need the current Top Posts list for the last 24 hours to work. I’m kind of at the end of my rope with all that’s been going on since this last update with WordPress and Jetpack. I’ve got subscribers that have already canceled because nothing was working and I just need this last stretch to get everything up and running for good.
Alright, I’m pretty sure it’s something simple to fix. Please share your site’s URL so I can go take a look π
I guess you didn’t get the email; here it is:
the few that are showing up now are older posts. It’s set to 24 hours avg. daily views but it just won’t pull them. Should be Top 10 posts.
Now, even all-time is not working though it had been.
I dumped Jetpack all together which was the culprit and slowing down my admin panel but the issue still persists.
Checked one of your posts and noticed that WPP’s tracking script is missing. Try flushing WP Fastest Cache’s cache so WPP can insert the script into your posts and pages again.
Been there done that. I tried enabling the Ajaxify widget so it wasn’t cached and disabling it and then clearing the cache via WPFC to no avail.
When you set it to “all-time” it works but clearly the information it’s showing is false.
Also, excerpts is not working at all no matter what you do.
Here are a couple of pics with my settings:
Is there a way to completey remove everything after deactivating? Meaning, uninstalling, what folder do I clean out in my file manager so I can do a clean install and get it working again.
That’s about the only thing I can think of at this point.
Don’t panic. No need to go nuclear to get things working again π
What’s keeping WPP from updating the views count of some of your posts / pages is the WPFC plugin. Clearing its cache will force it to load all posts / pages again which should include the script WPP uses to track visits. You shouldn’t need to do anything else afterwards.
If WPP is still unable to update the views count, then either another plugin or your current theme is to blame. So:
- Disable all of your plugins, except for WPP. Visit one of your posts and check in the Stats section if your visit was registered or not. If it was, then a plugin is causing the problem. If WPP still cannot register any visits, then:
- Switch to a different theme for a moment (Twenty Fifteen, for example) and repeat the process from above.
Let me know what happens.
Disabled all of my plugins no culprits to be found. Tried three different themes then viewed the site in incognito and still no data showing up.
This all started with the Jetpack update screwed everything up. Determined it was there “spelling and grammar” service that causing all the problems. Once disabled, everything started working again but my admin began running to a crawl.
Dumped Jetpack all together and replaced the handful of services I was using through them with separate plugins, which all work flawlessly. The only one I have yet to resolve is WPP.
Nuke option is the only thing I have left.
I honestly don’t think deleting WPP’s data will help as I still don’t see the tracking code in your site’s code, but if you still want to try:
- Backup your database (or at least WPP’s tables: wp_popularpostsdata and wp_popularpostssummary), just to be safe.
- Go to Settings > WordPress Popular Posts > Tools, at the very end of the page you’ll find the Clear all data button. WPP will then ask if you wish to continue the operation, confirm and that’s it!
I’m through with everything. This past week since the update has been a nightmare and cost me a lot of good faith with followers and even lost some subscribers.
WPP is used as a way to showcase more content on my site in the sidebar that’s it. Nice to have but not pertinent. I’m trying out a different plugin and am getting the same results. No data showing up. I’ve got a high-end account Siteground and will see if they can help otherwise I’ll dump the sidebar and add another column then switch to endless scrolling and be done with it. It’s gonna hurt in subscriptions but I don’t see any other options at this point.
Now, I’m going to have a beer and sulk.
Thanks for your help (and I’m not being sarcastic), I do appreciate it.
Keith
partyfavorz.comYeah, it does sound like you need a beer or two hehe. Do let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with!
