Thanks for sharing your experience. I can imagine how frustrating that must have been.
However, it seems like something unique to your site may have impacted the extension connection as it doesn’t just disconnect on its own. Something else that could have caused this is revoking access from your Google account (this can happen if you have the extension set up on another site and disconnected the existing connection on the 2nd site).
From what you described, reconnecting the extension will resolve the issue. I agree the impact on your revenue is unacceptable.
