• I moderate my Blog. Sometimes I delete comments.
If I get a complaint that I unfairly deleted, I have no way of checking what it was that I deleted.
My question is: is there some way of saving and archiving comments deleted by the moderator?

Mark the comments as “Spam”. This removes the comments, but archives them in the database. You can recover the comments marked as “Spam” with Spam Nuker. More info: http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Combating_Comment_Spam/FAQ#What_happens_to_comments_that_are_marked_as_.22Spam.22.3F

    Thanks for the suggestion.
But I really do not want to search through all the spam I get to locate a few deleted comments.
What I really need is a plugin which supports the same sort of archiving you describe but when comments are marked “delete”.
    Any more thoughts?
    TIA

how bout putting more thought into a deletion before deleting.

    I’ll restate my problem.
I always give proper thought before deleting. I try to do the right thing. (I suggest you try moderating a difficult site and you will see what I mean.)
But maybe a week or 2 weeks after the deletion, the poster will complain and ask me for my reasons.
At that stage I have forgotten the wording of the post and therefore the reason I deleted it.
I suppose I could keep my own manual archive of all deletions.
Or I could get some memory lessons.
But in the end, it seems to me to be a fairly simple matter for someone more skilled than I to produce a solution.
OTH, if nobody out there has this problem then forget it.
    Thanks for your comment.

IMO, that’s too much work for you. Find some tiny place on your blog to mention that the commentators have twenty-four hours to complain about their deletion. After that, it’s just too bad for them. Honestly, I’m sure you wouldn’t have deleted the comment if you didn’t have very specific and meaningful reasons to do so. Consider this:

Commentator: Hey! I posteded a comment on ur blagg too weeks ago. Where ez it Yo? Why you deleet my coment? U think u r 1337 or sumtin? I am 1337! I am h4x0r! Ph34r me! w00t!

Peterfaris: I’m sorry, I can only offer specific explanations up to twenty-four hours after a comment’s deletion, and your response time of two weeks hardly falls under that time frame. Rest-assured, I only delete comments if they contain profanity, adult subject matter, or overall ignorance.
